What it is useful for
- Checking a restaurant bill, grocery price, ticket, or taxi fare in a currency you are less familiar with.
- Comparing a few common amounts without opening a separate converter app.
- It also works when you currently have no network.

How rates are loaded
When the app opens, Splex checks whether exchange rates are already cached on the device. If the cached snapshot is missing or older than 24 hours, it asks the server for a fresh snapshot.
The server stores complete daily snapshots for the supported currencies. If today's complete snapshot already exists, it reuses it. Otherwise it tries to fetch a new one from the configured currency provider.

Offline behavior
Once rates have been downloaded, they are stored for offline use. If you open the calculator without a connection, Splex can still calculate with the cached snapshot.
If no rates have ever been cached on that device, the calculator cannot show conversions until the app has been online at least once.
Keep in mind that the rates can therefore be a little inaccurate.
Common questions
Are calculator rates exact enough for settling expenses?
They are good enough for Splex's internal conversions, but they are still exchange-rate snapshots. Your bank, card provider, or payment app may use a different rate and add fees.
Does the calculator need internet every time?
No. It needs internet to download rates, but cached rates can be used offline afterwards.
